What I like about this collection of songs is that the bulk are so sweetly listen-able! Her voice is lovely and she delivers the songs very well. Nice mix of some 'salsa' and most pleasant love songs. Glad I got this one!

The Queen of Latin Pop at Her Best So Far!

"I have always been a fan of Gloria Estefan ever since her Miami Sound Machine Days. I have always loved her strong and deep voice and her amazing ability to write songs that are both catchy and meaningful at the same time. This album is no different. However, Gloria does seem more serious on this one. The biggest hit on this album was "Reach" for the Olympic Games, but although the song is wonderful, it is not my favorite. My favorites are "I'm Not Giving You Up" (the ballad version), "Steal Your Heart", "The Heart Never Learns", and "The Path of the Right Love." All of these songs, in my opinion, deal with the truth of love in it's purest form. It is not something that is constantly romantic and perfect, but an emotion filled with as much pain as pleasure. "The Path of the Right Love" especially deals with the unconditional love that the world needs more of. My favorite lyric on this song is "I do believe, If we share this life, We must learn to share, All its pain and strife." Take from that what you will. Musically this album has a very different style than her former English albums. The flavor is more Latin than Pop and has very interesting interweavings of Afro-Cuban rhythms that only her Spanish Language albums have had to date. This is my favorite Gloria album, so far."
Pure glory from Gloria Estefan

"Quality in every department on this album. As an artist she always gives the best to the listner. You know what you get, but it`s nothing wrong with that. From the opening track Destiny to Track 11 Reach there is just small musical letdowns to not give the CD a five star. But the glorious "Estefan touch" shines trough the weaker things anyway. Personally I prefer here when she sings in spanish, because it`s more real in a way. You get anyway a good mix of slow songs
and songs with more "up tempo" beat. Track 5 You`ll be mine is a good example of that. Track 9 Along came you is an another example wich realy make you "cha cha cha" all trough. The acoustic Track 11 Reach is a classical Estefan
songs as we like it. A fine end to a good musical journey."
THE DESTINY OF DR. BEAT!

""DESTINY" was release in a time when pop music was suffering to stay alive, drowning in a ocean of GANSTA RAP and SELF DISTROCTIVE ROCK, Gloria's "Destiny" came 2 years after her covers album "Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me" wich along with "Into The Light" began the down road for this artist as a chart maker but not as an artist and performer, many songs here are so intimate and well written, that no wonder they didn't got a chance in front of the speedy rap. But the tunes worth it are pure classy pop with a mixture of latin flavors. The opening track, my personal favorite "Destiny" is a great introspective track, with latin beats, and such great meaning to it, "...if I had to walk away from you, I know that it would be no use, cause you're so deep inside of me, can't deny...." great lyrics!, "I'm Not Giving You Up" tender ballad #40 on the Hot 100, such a great feeling and lyrics like "We'll find a way to be together, how ever long it takes whatever....", "Steal Your Heart" the spanish version made to the charts, another track with such latin-soul so intimate, "The Heart Never Learns" it's an ok but not great track, it's clever enough to keep you listening, "You'll Be Mine Party Time" an anthem classic for Gloria, more of a live concert track!, great second single #70 on the 100, too much party for the charts to handle, great danceable tune, "Path Of The Right Love" an ok, song, not great, but doesn't fall to the filler status, "Show Me The Way Back To Your Heart" ok, filler no good, "Along Came You" dedicated to Emily her daughter, it's ok, "Higher" upbeat great song, made the dance charts!, "I Know You To Well" I don't recall this one's beat, I think, yeah!, it's a filler cut, "Reach" so great, anthemic, great uplifting song, the great closure, this album is not Gloria's peak at commercial success, but it's truly a great pop collection, that takes Gloria to another level, far from the Dr. Beat danceables years!, but many tracks (like the first three) that makes you think that an artist with talent like Gloria could grow gracefully in the music, without attempting younger beats. If you like slow soulful ballads with a mix of latin beats this is for you!, if you're expecting Conga...well skip this one and buy 1998's Gloria!."
Gloria's DESTINY to continue her musical career

"After putting out INTO THE LIGHT in early 1991,Gloria Estefan released GREATEST HITS the following year, and two years later,HOLD ME THRILL ME KISS ME which is all cover tunes. In 1996,came DESTINY which is completely all her own(no covers or previously released material). The title track is cool. REACH is the only Top 20 hit from the album. I also like I KNOW YOU TOO WELL,YOU'LL BE MINE(PARTY TIME),I'M NOT GIVING YOU UP and HIGHER. ALONG CAME YOU is an ode to Gloria's daughter Emily(yes,Emilio is her father). All the other songs are good."

"Gloria Estefan's Latin and Salsa influences are a huge part of this album. The lively Latin beats and rhythms make every song a success. "Party Time" especially encapsulates this, and the mood and sentament of that song applies to the entire album as well."
