Product DescriptionGlenn Miller & His Orchestra are fondly remembered as one of the very best big bands of the Swing Era, but also as one of the central
elements of the music landscape and iconography of World War II. Miller paid his dues during the 20s and 30s as a trombonist and arranger working with and up-and-coming names like Ben Pollack,
Benny Goodman, the Dorsey Brothers, Bing Crosby and Ray Noble. The Andrews Sisters were the most successful female vocal group of the first half of the 20th century in the U.S. No other female vocal
group, and very few male ones, came close to their success from the late '30s to the early '50s, an era when first big bands, and then solo singers, dominated popular music. In 1939, Miller was invited to take over the popular Chesterfield-sponsored radio shows. The sponsors hedged their bets and also hired the Andrews Sisters, then the
hottest girl group around, to ensure big audiences. The resulting 3-month series produced some rousing and swinging performances.
This is the first time a collection of Glenn Miller s Chesterfield Show recordings have been packaged
and is a must release for Glenn Miller collectors. Fans may have his popular studio recordings, but may not have these less familiar tracks, including broadcast versions of tunes Miller never recorded elsewhere. The Chesterfield Shows captures the essence of the War era including radio station intros and promos.
