Album Description
Giovanni Colonna (1637-1695) rose from humble organist to chapel master of the prestigious San Petronio Basilica in his native town of Bologna. Many of his compositions are lost, but his major oratorio Il Transito di San Gioseppe (1678) has been preserved and is recorded here complete for the first time. The libretto tells the apocryphal story of St. Joseph being visited by an angel on the day of his death and led to the gates of Heaven.
