"If you don't want to own all of the excess background music of the GIGI score featured on Rhino's expanded edition of the soundtrack, then this budget-priced UK reissue is definitely for you.
While obviously taken from second generation LP recordings (as opposed to the original master tapes) the sound is clean and acceptable. The UK's music laws contain a loophole that allows most commercial recordings over fifty years old to enter the public domain, so many record companies in England have been taking advantage of that fact in recent years. It's not so nice in terms of the original performers/composers and their royalties, but a dream for good music lovers!
Perhaps most importantly, this disc has the expanded "LP version" of the Main Title (with the "She is Not Thinking of Me" mid-section), which wasn't included in Rhino's otherwise-definitive CD reissue. The only bonus tracks are some vintage Maurice Chevalier songs; while not directly relating to GIGI they do have a Parisian charm and it's always fun to hear Chevalier's unique way with a melody.
