Exquisite performances of de Wert's music

"This marvellous CD contains a number of motets by Giaches de Wert and one Mass. The performances from Currende and Concerto Palatino, all directed by Mr. Erik Van Nevel, with Mr. Herman Stinders providing basso continuo on the organ, are extremely good and, perhaps, even better than the di Lasso disc recorded by the same forces. The voices of Currende sing with great beauty, accuracy and expression and the soprano blend with high cornetto in a very impressive way. It is almost impossible to distinguish the sopranos from the cornetto in the motet, Egressus Jesus, the final item on the disc. Some of the motets are presented without instrumental accompaniment and of these, Adesto Dolori Meo à 6 voci is my favourite.
Highlights of this disc are: Ego autem in Domino sperabo, Vox in rama, O Altitudo (what an amazing piece of music!), Ascendente Jesus and Peccavi super numerum.
Currende and Concerto Palatino simply glow on this CD and it is a very special recording, indeed. Bruce Dickey's cornetto playing is the ray of sunshine through the stained glass that illuminates the shadows and brings grace and light to this already profound and sublime music.
If you're a lover of High Renaissance music and the music of the Early Baroque, then this disc is for you.
This is a very, very good recording.
