Album Description
Although George Enescu experienced his first international success very early on in his career, not only as a musician but as a composer as well, forty years after his death there are still only very few of his works -- primarily the Romanian Rhapsodies (Op. 11) -- performed in the standard concert repertoire. Among his compositions there are numerous forms and genres of orchestral and chamber music: the Symphony concertante Op. 8 was written in 1901 in the style of a solo concert for cello and orchestra. Originally composed for voice and piano, the Sept chansons de Clément Marot Op. 15 are performed in this recording in a version for tenor and orchestra. Enescu's chamber music culminated in his Chamber Symphony Op. 33, written in 1954, the year before he died.
