This is a hunka hunka hunka burnin' hits. If you enjoy the King, this is a good disc to add to your collection!

"Great album, nice variety! Lacking a couple of the more popular songs, but definately an album any Elvis fan would want to buy!"
Only the Hits!

"My father once told me that if a song goes to #1, it probably sucks. After all, it the public is picking it. I believe that to be true in most cases except this one. Elvis was a talent bar none.Alot of his other work was better than his #1 hits and alot wasn't. To make a correction to the amazon review, the 18 hits were from 1956 - 1969, not 59."

The Number One Hits

""The Number One Hits" is a nice collection of standard Presley hits such as "Hound Dog", "Jailhouse Rock", etc., and it's quite nice to have these on a single disc. Also noteable, though, are the lesser-known number ones that appear here ("Don't", "Hard Headed Woman", "A Big Hunk O'Love"). That said, one could argue that several number ones were omitted; this disc features only Billboard chart-toppers. Also, suprisingly, some Elvis favorites that made nunber one on several charts besides Billboard aren't here. In fact, according to RCA, every copy of "Way Down" sold out within days of Elvis's death, and yet it's not here. Like the recently released "The Beatles 1" for the Beatles, this album is full of great Elvis, but it's missing several hits. These eighteen songs (and several others by The King) will live forever."
"The King" is king for a reason!

"This is the slimmed-down version of "Top Ten Hits," which means you're getting the "best of the best." Being "the King," and having a recording career covering two decades, there is a lot of good Elvis to choose from.We gauge the Beatles by their albums, but we gauge the King by his songs, since their careers and styles were different. None of the Beatles did time in the Army, or focused on a movie career like Elvis. Elvis was not a recording artist, or a composer/songwriter, but an entertainer. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that Elvis put the "E" in entertainment. This CD has the hits listed chronologically, so you are hearing the evolving Elvis, as he gets his feel for the studio, and adds that to his natural talents and irreplaceable voice. The only down-side it that you aren't getting some of his popular songs that were not #1 hits, such as "Kentucky Rain," or "In the Ghetto (the Vicious Circle)," which are better than some of the songs on this CD. If you want a deeper run into Graceland, then get the "Top Ten Hits," which should have anything you could ever want in a Elvis survey CD.The copies are flawless, and have a clean re-mastering process, so they tracks almost sound fresh. The linear notes are also helpful. It is a nice picture of the thin Elvis, which looks like a potage stamp, even though I prefer the later Elvis that I remember seeing on TV as a lad."
