"I met Ellis this past weekend (3/6/04) at an intimate house concert she gave in Sacramento, CA with two other independent artists (irina rivkin and kym tuvim - who are equally amazing). This was the first time I'd been to a house concert, and this one was sponsored by a lesbian couple who are friends with the artists. Being an intimate setting, allowed the performers to really connect with the audience, and share with us some very personal life experiences through song and spoken word.Ellis is in a few words, simply amazing. Aside from her music, which speaks from the heart, her personality absolutely bubbles over her guitar onto the audience. She laughs between lyrics (on songs which are funny - of which there are many that are laugh out loud kind of funny), and during songs which are very touching, you can see the emotion in her face as she plays and sings. Her new CD, which is a live album, and was put together with the help of some of her fans (she held a contest on her website: http://www.ellis-music.com/), will be released soon, and you can pre-order signed copies from her site. Included on that album will be "Grace" which is a powerfully emotional song, where Ellis describes some inner turmoil and learnings she has gained. This CD, which I purchased at the house event, has now become a permanent resident in my player. Each of her songs is unique in word and music, and each one tells a very interesting story about life events she's experienced.Unlike many other indy artists, she doesn't lean too far into the political commentary which might turn some people off, but does speak of the world, and the reality we live in.If you have the opportunity to see her live, the experience will be well worth it. She's so personable, easy to talk to and laugh with, and has a genuine love for her fans. And not to mention that she's absolutely beautiful... :-)Enjoy!"
