"The selection of cuts on this 2 disc set may not include all of your favorites (some of mine are certainly missing), but it does include a number of the standards. Some of these are on disc 1 (CD), and some on disc 2 (DVD). For the record, the selections on the DVD are:
- Take the "A" Train
- Satin Doll
- Stormy Weather
- Blow by Blow
- Jam with Sam
- A Bundle of Blues
- Things Ain't What They Used to Be
- VIP Boogie
- Kinda Dukish
- Bugle Call Rag
- I Got Rhythm
- Black and Tan
The audio quality of both discs is pretty much what you'd expect given the age of the material and the technical capabilities of the original recording technology: don't expect any remastering miracles from this set. However, it's the DVD that's really valuable here. It consists of a number of short films, some of them concert footage, others of far more historical interest, e.g. the concluding short on the DVD is the first section of the eponymous 1929 Film. For the price, this set is a great value."
