Excellent CD of rare early '50's Doris Day recordings

"This CD of rare radio transcript recordings features some of Doris' most seductive and sultry singing. She performs each song superbly, but standouts are the achingly beautiful "Stardust," in which she performs the lovely, but seldom heard, verse and an utterly simple version of "I Could Write A Book," which highlights the song's poignancy more than any other version I have heard. There are also several truly fun duets with the wonderful Page Cavanaugh Trio, while the remainder feature Doris and a solo piano. While a few of the songs themselves are mediocre, Doris' vocalizing is top notch on all tracks. She had the ability to make even bland songs sound like potential classics. The sound quality is superb, if not the lush sound of her Columbia records. Great liner notes by Dave Dexter, with a paragraph written by Doris herself. Perfect music to cuddle by in front of the fireplace. Intimate and a bit sexy."

"Doris Day is a great singer who has recorded many wonderful albums. This one was a real find for me. The Page Cavanaugh Trio has a unique and wonderful sound and offer a superb accompaniment to Day's singing talents. The cuts which offer background vocals by Page and his trio are especially memorable. Page Cavanaugh is simply one of the finest pianists ever and he and Doris Day team up here to make one very exceptional recording."

"You never thought of Doris Day is a jazz singer did you? Well buy this cd, listen, and think again. Swing/jazz pianist Page Cavanaugh and day intereact very creatively here, Day let's loose and sizzles atop The Page Cavanaugh Trio on songs like Just you, Just Me , September In the Rain, and many other delightfu standards. Cavanaugh swinging style goes perfectly with Days' rhythmic and soaring voice, she never sounded so great, as when being backed by jazz trios(she worked with Harry James Trio, and Andre Previn's trio too). This cd features Day's best work as a singer."
