Del Shannon was different from other stars of his generation, but there is no doubting his continued popularity or his rich musical legacy. Unusually he wrote many of his hit singles: he had 14 in Britain, including six that went Top 5 (they are all included in this compilation of hits and rarities). He was 26 years old, a real late starter, when he had his first hit, 'Runaway', a #1 in 1961 and like many of his classic recordings it featured his trademark falsetto.
