Rock doesn't get much harder than Ms. Love's latest, sung in a shredded, desperate voice. Contains blistering rocker "Mono," chilling "All The Drugs" and the poignant "Never Gonna Be The Same" with its organ-filled melody reminiscent of "Whiter Shade of Pale."

I'm at a loss.....
Billy Kazee | 06/27/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I'm at a loss to understand why it is this album is not considered a great album, by both Linda Perry and Courtney herself...on the recent Behind the Music with Courtney, she stated (regarding America's Sweetheart) "The songs just suck!"....I couldn't disagree more. I loved this album when I bought it six years ago and I love it just as much today. Although I'm a big Courtney fan, this isn't a question of blind devotion...if an artist I love makes a terrible album, I have no problem freely admitting it.

Out of twelve songs, there are only two I don't care for..."All the Drugs" and "Life Despite God", mostly because they sound a mess, however you have to consider that she herself was quite a mess during this period, so in truth hearing her warble "Baby, Baby, Baby" on "Life.." sounding like she's about to collapse is an interesting staple of her state of being.

Having said that, the remaining ten songs I either really like or absolutely love. "Mono", "But Julian...", "Hold on to me", "Sunset Strip", "Almost Golden", "I'll do anything", "Uncool", "Never gonna be the same"....I love all these songs ("But Julian..., "Hold on to me" and "Uncool" being my favorites).

I'm glad to see so many positive reviews of this album...it helps vindicate my feelings on it as a piece of work, but the truth is, even if that wasn't the case, I'd love it all the same!"
