"Hold on, let me put my Martini down...1950's Austrian Chanteuse Liane Augustin and her Boheme Bar band created the sort of gentle and sophisticated European jazz that should be legendary. This cd is a prime example of this largely bygone genre (the wonderful Pink Martini and Paris Combo are still keeping the tradition alive, thankfully). Liane is equally at home singing in German and French, and imparts a continental accent to her English. Each track is a gem of sophistication gently casting its spell. You find yourself in Paris, Brugge, Budapest, Vienna, Berlin, New York...as the cd progresses. At the risk of sounding sacreligious, Liane's version of "Padam, Padam" is superior to Piaf's in my book. Every track is wonderful and the instrumental selections are a sheer delight. Just the thing for your next swanky event or romantic dinner. Thanks are due to Vanguard for resurrecting this wonderful material."
