Expressive Jazz Singing

"One of the last studio recordings by the great Don Ewell, this finds him accompanying the accomplished singer Claire Austin in a series of 1920s - 1930s standards. Austin's voice is a rich, full bodied alto, and is wonderfully supported by Ewell's swinging piano. Good as the medium - fast performances like "My Honey's Lovin' Arms", "You Took Advantage of Me" and "All of Me" are, the most effective tracks are the ballads, where Austin's expressive skills and Ewell's sensitive support merge particularly effectively. "Memories of You" and "Rockin' Chair" are outstanding performances. Recommended!"
