"In this record, first 5 tracks are recorded live at Carlton Theatre in L.A. in 1953 and the other tracks are also recorded live at Masonic Temple, Ann Arbor in 1954. The audiences are very enthusiastic, which makes you feel as if you are in the concert. Especially, the introduction part where Chet Baker and his quartet are introduced and the conversation between Chet Baker and audiences are very interesting. His unique trumpet playing is easily seen in 2 versions of My Funny Valentine, Line for Lyons, Stella By Starlight and many other tunes in this record. He is magnificient during playing My Funny Valentine, especially in the beginning of the tune. If you like Chet Baker, you should have this record. Also, if you didn't listen Chet Baker and even not know his name, this record will be introductory to you. Chet Baker is an important trumpet player. In my opinion, he is the best. I listened many Chet Baker records but this one is very important for me. Because this record is live and he plays 2 versions of My Funny Valentine, which is one of the greatest jazz tunes."

"Speaking as a person who has almost everything out there that is on CD...this is not a huge departure from what you can find on other albums...but I will say that this album does capture the strength of Chet's trumpet playing during this live recording...there are no vocals on this set but the playing is fierce and the cats playing with Chet definitely have it together.
I would recommend this CD to anyone seeking to get a better understanding to Chet's trumpet style."

"Capitol Records released three volumes of "Quartet Live" each with a different title: "This Time The Dream's On Me," "Out Of Nowhere," and "My Old Flame." I want to make a special note that these recordings are pretty old 1953-54, but these releases are a good chance for you to hear a young Baker scorch through some standards. I think his approach live was a little more fiery, but he was able to portray so many emotions to the listener that it's hard to compare his live with his recorded output. Both are two different situations for any musician. The music on "This Time The Dream's On Me" is simply outstanding and is recommended for all Baker fans. Get your copy before they are completely gone.
