"The jazz scene in Raleigh North Carolina was greatly enhanced when Carol Moved to the area. In looking for a piano player, friends told her she could not do better than local legend Paul Montgomery. They played together for years in various clubs. The title "Subway Tokens" comes from the location of the club they played in: Underground shopping center in Cameron Village in Raleigh The club was named "The Frog and Nightgown"
Not to forget the other personnell on the album:
Rick Eckberg on bass and
Peter Ingram on drums who was incidentally the owner of the club.
Not to foget: This is a fabulous album and I have
purchased many Carol Sloane albums since."
A unique jazz singer

"Recorded during a presentation at Subway Tokens, a young Ms. Sloane already presents all the elements that make her a unique jazz singer, a creative force, and an exquisite lady. Using her voice at times like a sax, she makes love to the melody while swinging gently and giving a great reading of the lyrics. All who love real jazz shouldn't miss this cd for it is a double sin, either if you miss it or if you listen to it."
