"This is a fine recording of "Chants d'Auvergne", and it can withstand comparison to the better-known recordings with Dawn Upshaw, Anna Moffo, Kiri Te Kanawa, and Frederica Von Stade. The real draw of this recording, even if you already own another version, is the singing of the infrequently recorded Marvis Martin. Her creamy and rich lyric soprano possesses many color, and a shiny bell-like quality in its upper reaches. Her phrasing, and inflection are always lovely, and she brings many different moods to the cycle, creating character and atmosphere with each individual song.Orchestre d'Auvergne and conductor Jean-Jaques Kantorow are obviously at home with the folk idioms upon which this music is based."
