Some of Calloway's Best Songs, But Higher Quality is Desired

"While in a local music store, the classy cover to this CD caught my eye. Realizing it was a compilation of Mr. Calloway's (also includes work by Dixon, Caston, and Liggins) works, I decided to take the CD home with me. Upon listening to it, I was struck by two thoughts. Number One: This CD (as another reviewer on this page wrote) seems to have recordings of Calloway at several points in his career, both early and towards the end. Number Two: The quality of the recordings is an unfortunate side effect of time. Listening to this CD is comparable to listening to many of the original records (from which they apparently came from). I found that much of this can be compensated for by playing this recording at a slightly higher than normal volume. These recordings were enhanced to provide better sound quality, but even this technology has limits as to how much it can repair. I recommend listening to the sample music provided further up on this page before purchasing the CD. It will give you some idea as to what I mean when referring to the sound quality."
