CD Reviews

Filled with masterpieces from their first four albums.

"This is a german greatest hits album that was released in 2000. Here's the songs on it:

'Art For Art's'

'Prisoner of Funk' both from their first self titled 1983 lp.

'Bulky Rhythm'

'Please Let Me Be Your Third World Country'

'Valentino's'

'Banana Love'

'Little Red Riding Hood'

'Johnny's Room' all from My I'm Large (1987)

'From The Laundry Cycle:

Pounded On A Rock

Where Does the Wayward Footwear Go?

Share a Load'

'Santa Ana Woman'

'Corn Dogs'

'Plastic or Paper'

'Killer Bees' all from Songs for Tomorrow Morning (1988)

with the last two songs being bonus trax on the CD which,

I think came from a 7" they did.

'Come Together' from Sing the Songs of...(1991).

For me 'Bulky Rhythm, 'Banana Love', 'Pounded On A Rock', 'Where Does the Wayward Footwear Go?' and 'Come Together' are like second tier hits of theirs. Cool, fun, nice, listenable but not what I'd call masterpieces.

The other eleven songs are masterpieces or nearly so ('Plastic or Paper' and 'Killer Bees'). If you can only have one BOBS record, you won't go wrong getting this one. If you can get the first four albums represented here, that's even better because there's some all time masterpieces missing from this collection ('Helmet', 'My Shoes', 'Through the Wall') and some that are great BOBS hits ('My Husband Was a Weatherman', 'Boy Around the Corner', 'Purple Haze', and 'Whole Lotta Love').

Certainly, if this is the only album that is domestic for Europeans, I'm glad they made it and it's available to folks there. A fine representation of a funny, inventive, story tellin' band who can make some songs that just stick with you and touch your heart. a cappella baby. chrisbct@hotmail.com
