One of Bobby Darin's best titles

"I absolutely adore this disc. It's basically two albums for the price of one - having both Darin's The Shadow of Your Smile and In A Broadway Bag LPs. It was the second Bobby Darin cd I had purchased and it made me a true fan. It has a good selection of standards and show tunes. The upbeat version of Lover Come Back To Me is sure to get your feet tapping and the emotive Rainin' (written by Darin) always makes me a little misty eyed. The cd also includes some bonus tracks two of which (Funny What Love Can Do and We Didn't Ask to Be Brought Here) are from Darin's folk rock era and I think this album could have done without. Overall, however, this disc has a good amount of outstanding tracks some of which are very hard to come by and it is definitely worth the price."
The Essence of Darin

"This album showcases Darin as a pure singer, for those people who associate Darin only with Mack the knife, Lazy River, Bill Bailey and Beyond the Sea they will have a real treat listing to Darin on this CD. He covers all the Academy Award songs for 1965 on Shadow of you Smile and is awesome on Broadway Bag showcasing his tremendous versatility with a song. Sit back and enjoy!"
"In A Broadway Bag" Validates Bobby's Great Ballad Singing

"Bobby Darin not only could swing show tunes and jazz better than any other classic popular vocalist, but as a ballad singer he ranks right up there with Sinatra and Vic Damone. Listen to the way Darin easily moves from low to high notes on such tunes as "Try To Remember" and "Once Upon A Time." He holds notes across numerous consecutive bars longer than most pop singers stay on the charts. This guy could sing--- and to think he had a bad heart! Of course, the swinging big-band arrangements were Bobby'sa stock-in-trade, and he shines on all of them. Darin sang all musical genres and tempos better than any other singer in history. Buy this CD and you will see what I mean. What a shame he died so young."
