Great Songs, Occasionally Poorly Executed

""My Favorite Broadway Songs" is one of the best Bing Crosby releases in years. The problems with this release are small. Firstly, the remastering of "Close As Pages in a Book" is nonexistant. The background noise obscures and ruins the recording. Trudy Erwin, Bing's duet partner on both "People Will Say We're in Love" and "Oh! What a Beautiful Mornin'" is only listed on the latter. And "I Love You" is not the correct version. This is a different 1944 recording of a Grieg song with the same title, not the Cole Porter tune. However, these small things should not deter you from picking this release up -- at this price, it's a steal! It does not feature any of Crosby's oft-rereleased hits. It's filled with wonderful, sweet ballads, beautifully arranged. Crosby is in fantastic voice throughout, since these recordings date from the 1943-53 period. The highlights include "I've Never Been in Love Before" and "I Still See Elisa.""
