"I had seen Billy Eckstine in concert a few times before his untimely death a few years ago. His stage presence was wonderful but his blues tunes suffered from the small backing band at the Blue Note or casino lounges. Then I purchased this album and what a revelation it was. Here was Eckstine concentrating on the blues and backed by probably the best big band ever, wow! While this shouldn't be your only Eckstine album (not really representative) it is indispensable. What a singer, what a band. I still miss him."
Very smooth.

"It doesn't get any smoother than this. Both artists are at their peak career wise. I recall my father purchasing this one on vinyl in 1963.
Eckstine's version of "Don't Cry Baby" is exquisite. "Jelly, Jelly" has the type of feel that youngsters like Michael Buble, Matt Dusk or Harry Connick Jnr. strive to obtain.
Tremendous atmosphere on this album and it's on "Blue Note"..what more could you want?"
