"Has it really come to this? Here is an example of Sony/BMG trying to fleece their customers by doing as little work as possible. A few years ago, they put together a stunning 2CD set representative of La Streisand's entire career. Now they repackage those SAME 2 DISCS with a third disc of (only 9!!!) songs, most of which don't constitute as a greatest hit. My advice is to stay far away from this one as you possibly can. Most retailers aren't even carrying this, so I'm hoping Sony/BMG will get the message and do away with these mindless re-packagings of what most people already have."
A non-essential album to buy

"I agree with the first 2 reviews that this album is a rip-off by Sony BMG. I'm still a great big fan of Barbra (from Thailand), though. I agree that this album shouldn't have been released - it's been such an unfair move for Barbra. If Barbra can hear me, I want to tell her that she should have had as much control over Sony BMG as she'd had in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. The only reason I'll buy this album is just to add it to my Streisand collection (to make it complete). Other than that, it's a real rip-off by Sony BMG. Nothing is worth buying."
Enough is Enough of Sony ripping off fans

"Sony BMG should be ashamed of themselves for the money grubbing rats they are. No wonder why the music industry is in such a state of disarray. It's because they pull stuff like this. Discs one and two were already released on the previous Essentialcollection. At least that one had two unreleased tracks. Now they have come up with Essential 3.0. Only 9 cuts on the new third disc. All have been previously released.
Another attempt to take advantage of Streisand fans who must have everything their goddess puts out.
Hopefully, no one will buy this shameless attempt by Sony BMG and maybe they will learn their lesson.
They are sitting on tons of unreleased material that they could have released instead. But maybe they are saving that for Essential 4.0
A total diservice to Barbra and the fans that have supported her recording career 40 plus years."
Total Ripoff

"Shame on Sony and Barbra (she must have had some input into this joke of an album). Greed abounds. All previously released material released...and then released again...and yet again. I have lost a great deal of respect for Ms. Barbra. For those of you who think she had nothing to do with this, then why is it that she owns the rights to 3 of the 9 songs on disc three? And pls don't compare her to Tony Bennett...he doesn't charge $5,000 a ticket for his concerts. It seems our "Funny Girl" is now our "Money Girl". FYI, I have been a HUGE fan since 1963 and have bought every album on every format released."
Sony/Barbra Streisand: The Masters of Recycling 3.0
Cuban Bee Gees Fan | Miami, Florida United States | 01/09/2009

"Sony and Barbra Streisand had recycled everything on this "new" compilation.
The design is ugly. The picture is an over-and-over used picture now with a new orange and black look. All the songs included in the added CD # 3 are picked from several other albums (nothing unreleased) and most of the added songs are really un-essential tracks. "Evergreen" is in this compilation twice (in Disc 1 and 3). This is a masterpiece example of how to try to make money without any extra effort from the Studio, the record label and of course, the artist.
To buy this CD is a waste of time and money. I don't care keeping my Streisand collection without this compilation. It doesn't add any value to what I already have.
As some other reviewer said, if you are/were a fan of her, you can make yourself the extra CD, and save the money for the new CD she is recording with Diana Krall. Thank God next time there will be no recycling!
