"Barbara only had six hits on the UK singles chart but she was much more popular than that would suggest. Studio recordings of her four biggest hits are included, together with a live version of one of the minor hits.
Barbara's first hit, Answer me, was a cover of a song that had been a hit in the early fifties, so it comes as no surprise that Barbara recorded plenty of covers during her career. Although she also recorded plenty of original material, this album only contains four original songs, these being Another suitcase in another hall, Caravan song, January February and I know him so well (with Elaine Paige). Yes, they were all UK hits for Barbara.
The remaining songs include Love hurts (first recorded by the Everly brothers), Anyone who had a heart (an American hit for Dionne Warwick but a British hit for Cilla Black), I heard it through the grapevine (Marvin Gaye), Don't cry for me Argentina (a UK number one hit for Julie Covington, but Elaine Paige made the song her own when she starred in the original stage production of Evita - the song became a top three UK hit for Madonna in the nineties), I don't know how to love him (from Jesus Christ Superstar), Memory (Elaine Paige), Natural woman (Aretha Franklin), Don't think twice (Bob Dylan), She's leaving home (Beatles), First time ever I saw your face (Roberta Flack), Angie baby (Helen Reddy), You send me (Sam Cooke) and Missing you (John Waite).
This album contains all of Barbara's important hits and an excellent selection of covers, all at a budget price."
