Sheer Heaven

"This album is sheer heaven. Barbara Cook is at the peak of her ingenue voice, singing the glorious lyrics of Lorenz Hart to the sumptious music of early Richard Rodgers, with lush "high calorie" arrangements. If one had to find one small fault with the album, it's that Miss Cook chose not to record any of the teams comedy songs. But, with romantic ballads like this, sung like this, to find even that fault goes beyind churlish."

"I defy anyone else to sing these ballads with the unparalleled musicianship and definitive Dorothy Parker-ish female vulnerability that only Ms Cook can bring to a song. Extremely lyrical - not with the dramatic depth of her 75-99 recordings, but with a purity generally not found in popular music. As the saying goes, if you could only own one R&H collection, this is the one."
