"You are probably looking at this CD, scratching your head and saying, "I didn't know Bach wrote Flute Concertos?" Well you're right, he didn't. These are arrangements by conductor Milan Munclinger of two Concertos for Harpsichord and two Cantatas. Munclinger, the ARS Rediviva Orchestra and of course the eminent flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal put in first rate performances on this 1982 digital recording, but it just feels wrong. Not that I am a Bach purist who must hear these works with harpsichord or nothing else. Quite honestly, I'm not a big fan of the harpsichord, and I prefer to hear BWV 1055 as a Piano Concerto and BWV 1056 as a Violin Concerto. These arrangements just don't quite fit the spirit of the music. If you want some good Flute Concertos, try Mozart."
