"In 1970 after 40 years Fiedler and the Pops left their long time label RCA for Deutsche Grammaphone. In the last six years of his life Fiedler made 12 albums for them, none have ever been released to CD (except for the Disney music in 1994)until now in the 4 double CD collection The Fiedler Legacy with album notes by Fiedler's daughter Johanna. The first disc in this set includes the first album Fiedler made for DG in 1970,highlights from Broadway musicals then currently running.Though the excerpt from Sugar(the musical version of Some Like it Hot) might not be famular to many today the medleys from Hair, Company, The Fantasticks, Fiddler on the Roof and Man of La Mancha will be and are fine examples of the music loved to program for the Pops. The second disc has music from films of the late 60's like Alfie and Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head and the early 70's like the Godfather and Romeo & Juliet themes. The highlights on this disc are the only recordings (themes from Jaws & Star Wars) that Fiedler ever made of music by John Williams, the man who would follow Fiedler as conductor of the Pops in 1980. In fact the recording of the Star Wars theme was the last one Fiedler made before his death in 79. I fully recomend this set for all lovers of both Broadway, Hollywood and Fiedler."
