CD Reviews

Where is a Wonderful Dance Remix?
Tim Chapin | Madison, Wisconsin United States | 02/29/2004

"Still a 5 Star rating because the remixes that are included on this CD single are fantastic! Annie Lennox has come a long way in the remix world.
However...I really wish she would have included a remix of 'Wonderful' on this single - perhaps the astonishing Dave Aude Mix?Either Way - this is a winner - and I recommend it to any Annie Lennox or dance music fan."
Record Companies Putting A Halt To The Remixes....

"I'm starting to wonder why J-Records & BMG are taking so long to release anything that's off Annie's 2003 ''Bare'' album. Yes, this CD was released quite a while ago-- but the reason I'm asking is because, it was pretty bad enough that we had to wait THAT LONG to be able to get hold of just 2 remixes that were from the first single ''A Thousand Beautiful Things'', plus I won't even mention how long we had to wait to be able to get hold of the ''Pavement Cracks'' CD Single....and now again!?...There's no remixes of ''Wonderful'' here!!!. What on earth is going on!!?.........Are the record companies too scared to release too many Ms. Lennox remixes---is it maybe that they're afraid it will overshadow her elegant and mature music?. Stupid choice if you'd ask me!-- because she is fully capable of maintaining all music styles!!!.It's a pity....because Annie Lennox....has by far some of the best mixes I've ever heard in a LONG TIME, one of her ultimate bests is included on this CD---the (Scumfrog Mix) of ''Pavement Cracks''.So...to credit, Both of the remixes for ''Pavement Cracks'' are astounding!, I won't make too much of a description for ''Wonderful'' cos I'm still angry with the records companies whom did not release it in it's remixed form, So I'll just say that it's a great track with a superb chorus. The remixes for ''A Thousand Beautiful Things'' are both trance mixes. The (Gabriel & Dresden Tech Funk Mix) is probably what you'd be expecting from them, a heady/trance mix with a driven synth beat, also has some great music effects which reminds me of William Orbit's work. I also like the way this mix ends, Really cool. These guys will be around more often. Excellent!.The (Bimbo Jones Stealth Mix), Is a house mix which makes full use of the original tune, allot of trance, and a major overflowing vibe which reminds me allot of the remixes that are done for Cher---I figure if you like her mixes, you'll like this allot, as it is a really flawless mix-- although it seems almost impossible to eclipse the technique and distinction of the (Scumfrog Mix) done for ''Pavement Cracks''. That mix alone is worth the 12 bucks!!!. Overall, It's a good CD-Single, but I still have an unbalanced feeling about it, cos it lacks mixes of ''Wonderful'', like another reviewer said, this is for those who want to get hold of the long-waited remixes of ''A Thousand Beautiful Things''. The CD packaging/artwork is classy too, very similar the one from ''Pavement Cracks''. I just hope that the record companies will stop alienating the remixes done for Annie Lennox, and release them. Let the fans decide!!!!!!!!!"
Wonderful...But Where Are the Remixes?

"Of the three tracks released as singles from 'Bare' (all of them with a good selection of dance remixes by top names), this is the one that is easiest to find. BMG, to their credit, have seen fit to include the best versions of both 'A Thousand Beautiful Things' and 'Pavement Cracks' but completists should seek out the CD singles of both of these other singles to get even MORE remixes of these tracks (plus the ones here).

As commented on by other reviewers, the real problem with this CD is the absence of any remixes of 'Wonderful' which is very frustrating. Especially since Dave Aude and Sander Kleinenberg's work on this song represent some of the best remixes of the 'Bare' tracks.

If you already own CD singles of other 'Bare' tracks, you will be mightily disappointed with 'Wonderful' as you are only gaining the plain vanilla album mix. If you don't, this is an essential purchase for dance fiends everywhere and highly recommended."
