"What a wonderful album! I couldn't stop listening to the samples before I got it. Starved for good music, I am just discovering some neat music from the early 1900's. Annette Hanshaw has so much class, and makes most of today's pop singers sound like a fart."

"This is the compilation to buy, because it has the main song. Annette Hanshaw was just a teenager when she recorded "Lovable and Sweet". Unbelievable. What a voice. And what a song! Written by Oscar Levant, it's lyrics and melody work wonderfully together. It has delightful complex internal rhymes that are a joy to rediscover after the simplicity of the last few decades' pop songs. Almost anyone listening to Annette sing this song for the first time is going to -- I don't know how to put it. Can you fall in love with a young girl that died 16 years ago at 75?"

"This CD from the fine works of Annette Hanshaw is a real piece of Americana! The soothing voice of this 30's star comes across crisp and clear. Most folks my age (51) don't have a clue who even Annette was and thats fine because most my age don't have a clue about what real music is either. It's no wonder that Annette was known as a Band Leader's Dream the way that she could blend right in with the music. The days of singers like Annette Hanshaw,Connee Boswell,Jo Stafford and Helen Forest are gone forever. The Pop Music of today has nothing to offer and I mean nothing! The only way to hear good music today is to go back into the arcives of time and hold on to what will never again be duplicated! Treat yourself to some of the finest singing ever recorded-Annette Hanshaw!

"She could swing before the word "swing" was even invented, and she could scat before the phrase "scat" was ever invented. She improvised and swung with feeling and she always had the best back up musicians(Dorsey Brothers, The Mephis Five, Joe Venuti, Manny Klein, exe...) Hanshaw retired in 1934, after all she was an heiress who was singing for fun, not for money. This is esseential jazz, that sounds timelass and as good today as ever(does not at all sound dated) Pure jazz!!!"

"I find Annette Hanshaw's singing incredible. Did she have a great voice? It doesn't matter to me because she is so easy to listen to and one CD wasn't enough for me. While this is a superb collection and I love ASV/Living Era's array of splendid music from the 20s and 30s, I still needed more of Annette's recordings. What a pity that she stopped recording in 1934. Her 78s have been found and put on CDs and they sound fantastic because of the feeling she puts into her singing. This is an especially good one to be introduced to her music since it has a bit of all her recordings from 1926-1934. I easily give it five stars. I prefer her over Ruth Etting and that says a lot!!!"
