One day in the summer of 06 while searching desperately for footage for Anita O'Day The Life of A Jazz Singer, the documentary on Anita's life, Anita asked me to grab this enormous blue - really old suitcase out of the trunk of her 1986 Gold Buick La Sabre with almost black-tinted windows (which had recently been repainted a brighter gold). I complied. Now it was really tough to find originals, none-the-less most of the film footage on her career. We searched and searched without much luck. I carried the suitcase to her apartment. We opened it. It was
full of cassette tapes, video tapes, sheet music, really old lps, the photos pictured on this package from the night SKylark was recorded! A true treasure trove of goodies, much of which made it into the documentary. The car was another story.
It was eventually stolen by a Hollywood gang, wrecked and dumped in Compton!
Everyone told Anita that her car was the hippest set of wheels in Hollywood. The bonus tracks are from cassette tapes found in the suitcase. They are superb. A couple of them are the songs of an old friend in Florida, she recorded in the early 70's. There is little known about these bonus tracks but I am sure you will enjoy this superb recording from Japan and the bonus songs.
