"No one who has ever seen the film "Gilda" will forget the sight of the sensuous Rita Hayworth stripping off her long black gloves as she sings, "Put the Blame on Mame". Although Rita was a talented actress and dancer, her singing wasn't quite what the studio wanted, so she was uniformly dubbed in her musical numbers. (And more's the pity, really, because Rita did have a pretty singing voice with a small range. But I digress.) Anita Ellis is responsible for Rita's vocals in "Gilda". And you can enjoy the songs from that film, as well as many other film tunes and popular standards, in this new CD. The songs on this collection were recorded in 1952 and are fantastic. Her voice is pure and bewitching on these tracks. The liner notes also include a lot of little-known biographical info about Anita. It's wonderful that this talented singer can step out from behind-the-scenes and take her rightful place in the spotlight, front and center!"
