Album Description

One of America?s most prolific and successful composers, Mrs H. H. A. ("Amy") Beach was one of the first women composers whose works were as highly regarded as those produced by men. Best known during her lifetime for her well-crafted songs and short piano pieces, she was also the first American woman to compose in the larger forms. Beach?s 117 art songs span the whole of her compositional career. By incorporating musical ideas from many cultures and musical traditions within a late-Romantic framework, Beach?s songs show her skillful craftsmanship and profound understanding of text.

"I take private voice lessons from Kathie Kelton and she is amazing! She brings Amy Beach's music to life! I strongly recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys listening to classical and operatic music. The music is so beautiful it will give you chills! Fantastic!"

"Even though I really enjoyed the other Naxos Beach CD, I was surprprised by how many chills and tears I experienced in this collection of songs. Beach has a way of perfectly expressing the lyrics which are mainly poems and are included in the CD liner notes. As a whole the songs express Beach's compositional skills and her personal life. The songs contain several lullabies and poems about death. They are perfectly performed by the the mezzo and piano . Please buy these songs they do rise to the level of schumann ans Shubert.
