Album Description"The results were fun to experience and, surprisingly, left a musical impression versus that of exhibitionistic stunts." -- HERALD TIMES
Indiana University School of Music faculty trombonist M. Dee Stewart, always seeking performing adventures, invited the co-principal trombonist of the National Radio Orchestra in Turin, Fabio Sampó, to join him for this celebration of operatic highlights transcribed for two trombones. There are well loved selections from Puccini's La Bohème, Donizetti's Don Pasquale, Verdi's Aida, and more, along with songs of Rossini, including "Duetto di Due Gatti," a riotous "cat duet" usually reserved for two sopranos. Stewart is Professor of Trombone at Indiana University and has a rich history of performance accolades. Fabio Sampó has performed as first trombone in the Toscanini Orchestra under Lorin Maazel, Forty Years of Music with Luciano Pavarotti, and the La Scala Choir. With over 700 duo/chamber works, New Zealand born pianist Ashley Toms is sought after as a collaborative musician throughout the Midwest.
