The versatility of Amália

(5 out of 5 stars)
"I have decided to rate this album a five-star one mainly because of Amália's voice and the power of her art. Though clearly unequal in the chosen songs, and here and then needing some remastering and care, this album includes some of the best french songs ever written for her or sung by Amália, showing that even when singing in a language other than her own, she achieved incredible results. The complitation also includes some portuguese songs running from folklore to popular Marches (special songs celebrating Portugal's and specially Lisbon's annual tribute to the country's favourite and more popular saints-St. Anthony, St. Peter and St. John),and Middle Age songs, but also extremely beautiful French romantic songs, including the beautiful "Aranjuez Mon Amour". It constitutes a special and rare treat."
