"If you like the counter-tenor voice then you probably know and adore the distinctive style of Alfred Deller [1912-1979] who was largely responsible for reviving it. What is so special about this album is the selection of some of the loveliest Elizabethan and Jacobean pieces. Surely "Of all the birds that I do know" and "I care not for these ladies" in these witty performances will cheer anyone up on a dull day."

"This is Deller at the height of his unique powers. For those with a "willing ear" who are familiar with this great artist, that is sufficient reason to own this disc. Deller's phrasing, intonation, and articulation are flawless. Listen to his beautiful legato line and the seemingly effortless melismata in "Pandolpho". Most of all, Deller makes you hear the poetry and feel this beautiful music and love it as he obviously did. In my experience of over 30 years listening to this repertoire on disc and in concert, no one has equalled the magic heard here."
