"French singer-author-composer Alain Barriere is Breton, which explains his love for the sea. His superb rendition of Charles Trenet's "La mer" (Beyond the sea) and his majestic own composition "A regarder la mer" carry the listener to distant seashores. Poet of love, he also deals sometimes with social issues, as in "Un homme s'est pendu". His texts are touchingly beautiful (Emporte-moi, La Chamade), but Barriere's originality consists in his music. Concerto-like piano chords, accompanied by majectic trumpets (A regarder la mer) or a nostalgic spanish guitar (Angela) are perfect examples of the richness and originality of Barriere melodies and arrangements."
