"The title of the album is misleading and the songs are surely not the best of A.R.Rahman . His magic numbers from Kadhalan , Roja , Boys , Minsara Kanavu , Jeans are missing . If you are looking for some good songs by ARR , this album is fit . But if you want to listen to the best works from this magician , this album is not the right one."

"The Best Of A. R. Rahman"
(Sony-Legacy/Bollywood Records)
---------------------------------------------
With the amazing Academy Awards sweep by the film "Slumdog Millionaire," Bollywood music stands to make new inroads on the global popular culture, and composer A. R. Rahman -- who got an Oscar of his own that night -- has become a household name around the world, even in the United States. Rahman is one of India's best-known and most highly regarded contemporary songwriters, and this is a top-notch collection of his work, as interpreted by various popular Indian artists . The disc opens with an irresistible dance number, "Rang De Basanti", performed by Chitra Daler Mehndi, and branches out into a variety of styles. It's a great introduction to Rahman's work (there are several others to be found as well...) and an enticing doorway into the world of modern Bollywood pop. Recommended! "I first discovered A R Rahman's talents as a composer through his work on the SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE soundtrack. I fell in love with his music on the soundtrack so I thought I would check out his other work as a composer. I recently found his best of cd that was released this year at my library and got a copy. While the best of compilation barely does A R's legacy as a composer it did give a taste of his talents as a composer. I will admit some of the music took some time to grow on me like "Rang De Basanti" due to the repetitive rhythms but then there are songs like "Khoon Chala" and "Tere Bina" that reminds me why I love A R's music. The songs on the compilation are taken from Between Heaven and Earth, Bombay Dreams, Dil Hi Dil Mein, Guru, Lagaan, Meenaxi, and Zubeidaa. I didn't even realize until recently that A R was responsible for the wonderful music on Bombay Dreams. THE BEST OF A R RAHMAN is a great introduction for people like myself who fell in love with the music from SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. I would also recommend checking out his work on GURU."
