"QUALITY AND QUANTITY COMBINE IN THIS VERY FINE COMPILATION!
This is indeed one of the most tasty group of Christmas songs that I have come across in my many years of listening. It leans toward sacred, but there are tunes such 'White Christmas' sung beautifully by Thomas Hampson and a Brass Choir plays a Medley of songs such as Sleigh ride, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas etc. In addition to the many choirs there are instrumental groups that not only accompany, but solo occasionally.
The Participants Include: Michael George Choirs of Coventry & Litchfield Cathedrals (three selections)-Choir of New College Oxford (seven selections)-Heinrich Schutz Choir(one selection)-Will Glahe's Children's Choir (one selection)- Brown University Chorus with Boston Camerata (one selection)-Concentus Weien (3 selections)-Monteverdi Choir(one selection)-Sumi Jo(three selections)-Dawn Upshaw & Chanticleer (seven selections)-Jose Carreras (one selection)-Placido Domingo (one selection)-Kiri Te Kanawa (one selection). Instrumental groups: London Brass-Boston Camerata-Bolshoi Symphony.
Some of the carols are: 'O come, come Emmanuel'-'Once in 'Royal David's City'-'The Shepherd's Farewell'-'Agnus Dei'-The Holly and the Ivy'-'Panis Angelicus'-'O Holy Night'-'Jauchzet, frohlocket'-'Hallelujah Chorus'. TAKE NOTE THAT THE SELECTIONS ARE LISTED UNDER THE cd PICTURE.
As you can see there is variety and it's all up-scale musical works rendered by first class musicians. How can you go wrong? And it's so good to get away from 'mall music'.
