CD Reviews

One of the Best Recorded Edwin Fischer

"Nowadays who hasn't sung a Schubert song or two in school? But you might never have noticed that Schubert's music could be so sad, even more melancholic than Mahler right after he had lost his son one after another... The singer here, like nobody else, is going to show you this. And the myth about Schwarzkopf's voice and the way she sang: it attracted a host of top musicians ofher time including Glenn Gould, Furtwangler, Karajan, Geiseking, Richter other than Gerald Moore... they all flocked to accompany her on the piano, despite the fact that some of them were the most renowned conductors of their time! Never could you hear a more bell-like sound (Big bells) from a piano which is so celestial and dramatic. So much so that even Arrau fell as a Edwin Fischer admirer. Hear this CD and you will see why. The sound of this CD made in the 50s is not really excellent, especially the piano solo part. But it is more than enough to let such qualities come through. And even though Fischer, like Busoni, is known to have difficulties with playing in recording studio, but not this time, not here whatsoever. Well, perhaps this is a discounted version already but it is just SUBLIME ! Highly recommeded."
A billion carats treasure!

"This album deserves to be included by far , among the twenty most elavant masterworks ever recorded.

I don't think to sound exaggerate when I tell you we are in presence of the radiant luminosity of this privileged voice and this remarkable artist, master of masters.

All the set of songs is extraordinary and you won't believe the unsurpassed version of this set of "Musical Moments", performed with such level of divine innocence and glorifying musicality as you have never listened it until now.

Don't leave this record out of your invaluable collection, in case you are an ardent Schubert's fan. It's part of these golden achievements that will always shine in the universe of immortality .

A monument to two great musicians--indispensable

"This recorrding, in good mono sound, has not been out of the catalog for fifty years, and the reason is that no more inspired recital has ever been recorded. fischer offers seemingly simple, sometimes rather slow, accompaniments into which he pured a lifetime of musical mastery, and schwarzkopf rises to that level with singing that is at once pure, sensitive, very ddetailed in phrasing, and utterly committed to bringing out the poetry. All in all, a masterful combinaiton that has never been surpassed, even by them."
