I know nothing about jazz, but I've always enjoyed when I hear some in a movie or on TV. I would love to find some that I really like, but where do I start? Any suggestions?

Try some radio stations. iTunes has a whole category.

And some of my fav's: Patricia Barber, Stan Getz (careful, there's some 'variety' to his work), Pink Martini, Jobim, Bebel Gilberto (1st album), Pepe and the Bottle Blondes...

I'm very fond of Brazilian and Cuban styles in general.

Might also try Dave Brubeck-Time Out and Miles Davis-Some kind of Blue. Both classics. Might also get John Klemmers Touch Huge cross over hit back in the 70s.

Jazz has many flavors. Tune into the radio and listen to the variety. You will find a type you prefere more than others. We have progressive (bee-bop or junky music), Latin, smooth, big band, and others. You also may prefere one type of instrument over another. I love the sax.

those are good suggestions... i've been into my lps lately digging 70s fusion like RTF & Herbie stuff. Johnnie Mac

Laughlin Electric Guitarist hasn't aged at all. Mahavishnu sounds bombastic and dated, tho.

I don't know if you can pick it up online, but here in NY the is a great radio program called Birdflight at 8:20 am on WKCR FM 89.9 by Phil Schapp. Listening is almost like attending a lecture and getting a degree. Used to be Traditions in Swing too on Saturday nights.
