I've always thought that we could post a title directly from another trader's Wish List, and that trader would get the trade.  A few weeks ago, I tried that, and the trade went to somebody else.  I was on the intended trader's Wish List, I scrolled to the title I wanted to trade to him, I clicked on Post This CD on the line by the title, and the trade went to somebody else.  What did I do wrong?  Or was I wrong and this is not even a feature here?

What you describe is also my unerstanding of how to post to a specific member's wish list. In fact, I found a help doc: "Can I post a CD directly to someone's Wish List?" which states:

Yes.  If you have a CD that is on someone's personal Wish List, then all you need to do to offer that CD directly to that member (and NOT to the first person on the Wish List) is to go to the member's Wish List and click the  button there.  Be sure the title/artist and track list on your CD ALL match the information on the item on his or her Wish List!

  • Your CD will be offered to that member first, no matter where he or she is in the Wish List for that CD.
  • If that member does not request the CD, it will then be offered to the first person on the wish list and continue to be offered until someone requests it or until it is posted into the general library.

We hope that members do not do this too often, as FIFO+Wish List ranking is really the fairest way of swapping CDs, but they are YOUR CDs, and we wanted to offer this option to members who wished to use it.

So...it should have worked.

Daniel, I don't know if the direct posting feature is working correctly or not.

I know some things can make it go wrong.

1.  Always contact the player first and make sure they want the CD posted to them,

2.  If they have it on auto-request and they don't have enough money & credits they will be skipped and the CD will be offered to next person in line.

Hi Mark.  Yeah, that was my understanding too.

Hi Valerie.  That's good information to consider.  Thanks.

In my case, when the trade did not go to the trader from whose list I posted, I complained to the site and they maually canceled to trade to the wrong person and made the trade go to the intended person, and then the trade went through.  So that seems to indicate that the trader did want the title and did have enough credits.  So I'm still stumped.

Daniel - another possibility.  I've done direct posts that didn't go to the intended recipient.  It turns out I went one screen past where I needed to be.

When creating a direct post make sure you see the user's name on the top left.  Example - Daniel T's Wish List CDs and the post buttons on the right.
