Title: Best of Artist: Joe Walsh Label: Universal/Mca Date: 1/27/2010 |
This is my favorite JW compilation. I've always liked his harder, faster stuff, but this has the Joe Walsh music I like even more. "Help Me Through the Night" and "County Fair" have excellent bass and guitar sections and have always been favorites. The humor in Time Out and Mother Says is great. Plus you've got Eagles members Henley, Frey and & Meisner, plus JD Souther for back up vocals. It's just great music to listen to, and I even use it when I'm running or biking. Not all the best songs are the "radio hits", and this cd proves it. (I just wish it had "The All Night Laundromat Blues" on there). :)

Another KSHE-95 classic in St. Louis, from when I was a wee lad. With the line up in this band, (Dimeola, Clark, Corea & White), how could it be anything but good? Progressive jazz rock fusion at it's best!

I bought this because of the Jordanaires "Peace in the Valley", which my mom loved and sang to us when we were kids.

Title: Golden Classics: 22 Classic Tracks Artist: Roger Miller Label: Double Play (Int600) Date: 3/19/2010 |
I loved Roger Miller when I was a kid, and have been looking for these songs for a long time. He not only has a way with comical music, but can be very effective when he's serious. Some of the songs remind me of my dad, who died when I was young (back in the 60's). This is a type of music that is sadly missing these days. I think this is a great CD!

Title: Look What I Did (Anthology) Artist: Joe Walsh Label: Mca Original Release Date: 5/23/1995 Date: 3/24/2011 |
This cd not only has all of my favorite Joe Walsh songs, but a lot of classics that I have always really liked, and practically forgotten! Rosewood Bitters, Indian Summer, and the tongue-in-cheek Walsh tunes like All Night Laundry Mat Blues and Welcome To The Club. (Only and Ordinary Average guy like Joe could put subjects so true, yet so depressing, into lyrics that could bring a smile to your face, and get away with it.) I give it 6 STARS!

Title: Merry Sisters of Fate Artist: Lunasa Label: Green Linnet Date: 2/26/2010 |
I've liked this cd ever since the first time I heard it. It's energetic enough for me to work to, (run, bike or work out to), and still has some great slower tunes. It's traditional, but it also has a contemporary feel to it. I can listen to this cd anytime, anyplace and not get tired of hearing it. I actually gave it to a friend, then moved away from that city, and kicked myself every time I thought about wanting to hear it again. Now that I've acquired another copy, I will not let it go!

Title: The Mix Artist: Kraftwerk Label: Emi Uk/Zoom Date: 12/5/2010 |
Fun, fun, fun on the Autobahn! This early days (70's) techno was way before it's time. I bought it strictly for the 9:27 "Autobahn", but apparently it's their hits. I just remember riding around with friends listening to this progressive space rock music, and having an immensely good time listening to it. I give it 5 stars for Autobahn all by itself!!

Fun on the Autobahn. I don't know where you're from, but in St. Louis it's a KSHE classic for the geezers from the 70's. (Wow, I'm a geezer now)

Title: Piping Hot: Celtic Bagpipe Collection Artist: Various Artists Label: Celtophile Records Date: 2/26/2010 |
Great!!! I bought this because it had Michael Cooney, one of my favorite pipers, and boy, did I get a deal! This is full of great pipe tunes! I'm just glad it had Cooneys' name on it, other wise I may have passed over it. He and Jerry O'Sullivan are fantastic, but the list of other virtuoso's on this cd is really impressive. What a find!

This is the first Rush album, with their original drummer, and I think it's the best hard rock Rush ever put out. Working Man is a staple rocker, but Before & After and In The Mood are great, also. No doubt in my mind, this is when Rush was really Rush.

I wanted this cd for "Goodbye to Love", which has a guitar solo that I really liked and tried to imitate when I was a kid. (I also understand that a lot of Carpenter's fans hated it). But when I received it, I also found some songs that brought back some great memories of my first dances and early days of 'puppy love'. "We've Only Just Begun" and "For All We Know", in particular. These were staples of our 6th and 7th grade life. It's a fantastic collection for anyone who enjoyed the Carpenter's.
