Although some of these tracks are quite good, the album is *not* the "best" of Al DiMeola. Rather, it is a collection from very few of his albums and is subtitled "The Manhattan Years". He had many albums before and since those.

This "Best of" collection includes tracks from just their first three albums. That was when they were trying for a more Prog Rock sound, and before many people had heard of them. I have those three albums, and I like them a lot for what they are. The music is rather different from their later hits, and less polished. This collection does include their first big hit Hush, and another one you may have heard, Kentucky Woman (both are covers).

Since I haven't heard this collection yet (and it's been awhile since I heard those albums), I can't say whether I think this is the best of the first three albums or not. But if you haven't heard them, this should be a good way to get acquainted.

This is an un-official version of Wind on the Water, but with the tracks in a different order and one is missing: Take the Money and Run. I rated it 2.5 stars because, on the one hand, the music is great, but on the other hand, it has been reported to have inferior sound quality. Plus it's a bootleg and C&N don't get paid.

What you can't tell from the small cover picture is that this is John Lee Hooker (guitar & vocals), Sunnyland Slim (piano & vocals), Johnny Shines (guitar & vocals), Willie Dixon (bass & vocals), Clifton James (drums & vocals). I found samples at AllMusic.com.

Apparently there are different editions of this set. I have the 10-disc set from 2007 on the Collectables label. My track list for Vol.6 matches the list in the database here at SwapaCD (as it stands on 3/05/22). The set is an amazing collection of oldies. As far as I know they're all orignal versions.

Great clarinetist. If you like artists such as David Sanborn, I'll bet you'll like Eddie Daniels. He fits in well with all the other great artists on the GRP label.

I actually had this album once. I believe that they are the original artists - just not the original performances that we are familiar with. I think these are (possibly leftover) performances from the King Biscuit Flower Hour. At any rate, they are live. Recording quality is not as pristene as the official KBFH releases, but not too bad. It's a nice assortment of songs and a good way to introduce you to some of the artists.
