CD ReviewsAn album rich in melodies and instrument layers. 04/10/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "It would be difficult to surpass this sonic odyssey in melody quality. Almost every track of this disc features mellifluous tones you can sing in your head. This is a rare asset Zeus Faber is able to cultivate through an odyssey named Below. What makes this CD memorable is the melody appeal of each track with which the listener can identify with. The determination with which the acoustic guitar is plucked on Mathilda and Early Morning pieces is compelling. These images of vibrating guitar chords reflect the vision of a fragile world Man chooses to abandon. The whole album is thus an invitation to make peace with the interiors of Man's secret garden. Lament and hope dance hand in hand as warm piano keys accompany nostalgic guitar melodies. Layers of keyboards, harmonica, guitar, saxophone, drums, and choir are carefully designed. Various instruments blend with each other, and carry out its own voice through the piece. The nautical sounds of whales singing never interfere with the progressive march of the piano melodies. The latent melancholy beneath the keys of glass and the acoustic frail chords of Below reminds the soulful arrangements of Evening in Global House by Oystein Sevag. Keys of nostalgy evaporate upon vast expanses of sea while gentle chord pluckings bring hope across the horizon. Perhaps one day Zeus Faber and Oystein Sevag are bound to emerge as one? I have a great affection for the deep emotional impact of Below's subaquatic melodies. This is Zeus Faber's most contemplative recording which deserves to remain beloved."
