Intimate concert, and yet ...

"i must disagree that the sound quality, as some have expressed, of this recording is "horrendous". the discs have their charms, and the price is right for a two disc set. the sound is decent enough if you keep in mind that it was recorded for radio broadcast and was not meant to be an album. i suppose record company big wigs thought, 'hey! let's release this and squeeze some money out of a band that doesn't sell much anymore!" there are snippets of "time and a word" and "ritual", but anyone who can read would know that by looking at the back of the cd case. perhaps if you are only researching this on the web, you might be fooled.
i think the title is worth hearing. if you buy it thinking that it is representative of the band, then think again. they've never really released a representative live set (except, perhaps, 'yessongs') but the title does fill a certain void. anyone who complains that too many songs from 'the ladder' are included should have their head checked. the discs document the tour that supported 'the ladder', after all.
sorry to disappoint yes elitists, but i think the highlight of the two cd's is the mix of 'cinema' and 'owner of a lonely heart'. for some strange reason, most yes fans detest the trevor rabin version of the band, but i feel that he gave the band a kick in the pants and helped them retain some longevity. without him, i believe that the band would have simply lived on as 70's dinosaurs and would be nearly forgotten in 2005. unfortunately, they seem to be creeping in that direction anyway.
buy this. the price is right and the concert is enjoyable. it isn't a classic. please put on 'edge', 'fragile', 'the yes album', or even 'yes' if you want that kind of fix. if you want to hear a few old codgers adding to their retirement funds while having a good time as well, play this. i don't think you will be disappointed. if you are looking for something more, well, i don't think you'll find it here. in fact, if you want yes to release something truly amazing and different 36 years after their start as a band, then get real. if you are under the age of 36, then you don't have the perspective on their career and its context to be able to make any objective remarks. don't despair! i'm one of you.
peace.

No Kaye or Wakeman

"This is not a bad live disc. The sound is decent and it's all one show instead of different shows. Sure, you can find millions of live versions of I've Seen All Good People and Roundabout on other live Yes cds, but somehow, even though there's no Tony Kaye or Rick Wakeman, this cd is worth the money. I feel ripped off, though, because the song 'Hearts' was performed at this concert and they did not include it on the cd or dvd. WHY? That's one of Yes' best songs ever! From what I hear, Billy Sherwood sang Trevor's parts, and Steve Howe did the closing Guitar solo with the slide guitar. THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED ON THE CD AND DVD!!! Anyway, this is a good show that all Yes fans should have. If you're not too familiar with Yes, then you should also try this cd out. It does have their big hits that the non-Yes fans have heard on the radio or whatever. Plus it has a few songs that non-Yes fans have never heard that they SHOULD hear, like Perpetual Change and Awaken."
Too much of "The Ladder"

"This is a good double live album from Yes, but there is too many songs from "The Ladder" Two songs would have been OK, my choice would have been "The ladder" and "It will be a good day" This way we could have some other songs from some other studio album. Overall, a good cd again.
