"Yasmin Levy reaches back to the musical tradition of the Sepharadic Jews who were expelled from Spain but welcomed into the Turkey, Greece, and the eastern European lands under Ottoman rule. Singing in Ladino, Ms. Levy poignantly gives voice to broken-hearted lovers, mean-spritied sisters, and the aching yearning for Jerusalem. While not exhibiting great range, her voice nonetheless has the ability to convey the sorrow and pain of both the historical (life in the Diaspora) and the personal (the tribulations of love). Backed by excellent musicians, Yasmin Levy clearly shows why she is an Israeli treasure."
