A great recording from 1985, though I must confess that the meandering non-melodic pieces contained on this disc are not my style. Piano and trumpet.

Miles Jr., but very talented band.

"This album was recorded when Wynton was still inspired by (read copying) Miles Davis' 2nd great Quintet. The songs are good and the rhythm section of Charnett Moffett and Jeff 'Tain' Watts is very strong. Bro Branford plays sax and pianist Kenny Kirkland has some really nice moments in this CD."

"I think this is one of Wynton Marsalis's finest recordings. The compositions are complex, but the more you listen to them, the more you appreciate them. The musicianship is superb. Copying Miles? I don't think so. This is thoroughly creative, original, and outstanding -- one of my favorite jazz albums. I've been listening to this for 25 years, and I still love it."
