"Wycliffe is a trombonist in the truest sense. He doesn't waste his time trying to emulate a valve or reed instrument, he understands that the trombone is a unique instrument, one with a rich history that takes it back to turn of the century New Orleans. His inventive, original solos pepper his brilliant songwriting throughout this disc. I can't resist a Horace Silver reference here, but Wycliffe's themes remain original and relevant nonetheless. Check out what is otherwise an overlooked instrument in the jazz canon and smile."
