"Finally someone has release a comprehensive retrospective of Woody's little known Everest label recordings from the late 50's
That's right - late fifties - Woody assembled an incredible cast of musicians - mainstays from the Herd along with a few newcomers for the four albums he recorded for the label. Everest was known for their advances in stereo recordings on 35 MM film and the sound of these incredible arrangements shine sound much better and hipper than they did in the forties which is a nice treat. You'll find rare tracks featuring Charlie Byrd, Tito Puente and even Igor Stravinsky! Stravinsky wrote Ebony Concerto for Woody which concludes this CD. If Ebony Concerto doesn't get your blood boiling then you must have icewater in your veins! Highly recommended."
