Best Woody Album

"Best cut of this album is the great Four Brothers, utilizing stereo hi-fi equipment this time. The band members are made up of former Herman and Kenton sidemen, then mostly studio musicians. Mel Lewis is on drums, Zoot Sims back on tenor. The recording quality and talent level much succeeds that of previous low-fi recordings of Four Brothers. Even Woody was quoting as having said that day "Boy, I wish I could take this band out on the road!" Other band members on this session at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1959 were Bill Perkins, Richie Kamuca, Don Lanphere, Med Flory, Al Porcino, Conte Condoli, Urbie Green, Bill Chase, Sy Zentner, Vic Feldman, Charlie Byrd, and Monty Budwig. Wow--simply a who's-who of West Coast Jazzmen and soloists."
